The not-to-be-missed Ute Indian Museum and the Chief Ouray Memorial
Park is located in Montrose on Chipeta Drive, just south of town
off of Highway 550. It currently is open to the public Monday
thru Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Saturday 10am to 4pm and
closed Sunday.
Visitors to this National Historic Site will be treated to the
peaceful grounds that were once the home of the Ute Indian Leaders
Chief Ouray and his wife Chipeta. Inside the museum, you
will learn of the history of the Ute people who occupied this
area for many hundreds of years. Many treasured artifacts
will be seen in the spacious exhibit areas. A stroll through
the a one-of-a-kind gift shop is an experience that you won’t
soon forget!
